Shawn Luby
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Shawn Luby grew up in a small town in Kansas. His coming out was not met well by his family, and on his own he moved to North Carolina to find an LGBT community and establish himself as a leader committed to challenging LGBT injustice. Through his experiences, and those of his friends, Shawn has become committed to fighting for accessible health care choices, and accurate information regarding the long-term health concerns for the transgender community. His belief in responsible health care for disenfranchised communities has inspired him to become a medical researcher studying at the University of North Carolina. In Shawn's own words: "I fight because good health care should not be a chance event. I fight because every trans person should feel safe walking into a health care facility, without fear of ridicule, or harm." |
