2004 POINT SCHOLARS |
Christopher Scoville
Duke UniversityPublic Policy with Sexuality StudiesChristopher was raised in a somewhat religious environment in Kansas City that instilled in him a fear of eternal damnation and endless personal torment when he first came out to his family as a sophomore in high school. But this experience became the wellspring for Christophers activism. He is making a difference at a university with a rather homophobic reputation, working on a Presidential LGBT Taskforce to bridge the gap between academia and the practical application of LGBT policy. He was the organizer of his high schools first World AIDS Day Conference and a volunteer at the SAVE Home AIDS Hospice. Christopher has worked with StandUp For Kids in Atlanta, where many of the street kids had been disowned by their families due to their identification as LGBT. In Christophers own words: Point Scholars embrace their sexuality to establish secure identities, choosing to give back in some way to their community. I am honored to be in the company of other Point Scholars. |
