Steven Dry

Point Scholar 2007 – 2010

Steven graduated from Emory University in 2010 with highest honors in religion and chemistry. While at Emory, Steven served on the President’s Commission for LGBT Concerns and as a worship deacon for the university chapel. Academically, Steven focused his studies on the intersection between theology and sexuality. With the support of Point Foundation, Steven traveled to Stockholm, Sweden in 2009, where he met with top church officials, including the Archbishop, in order to understand better the Church of Sweden’s process for accepting gay marriage into their marriage theology. This research became the topic of his honor’s thesis. For his academic work, Steven was elected to Phi Beta Kappa as a junior and awarded the 2010 Vaddadi R. Rao Prize for Overall Excellence Among Majors in Religion. As a member of the track team at Emory, Steven was a conference champion and earned multiple all-conference honors. For his success on the track and in the classroom, Steven received the 2010 Emory University Scholar-Athlete Award. In addition, he was recognized nationally as a two-time Co-SIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American (2009, 2010) and an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient in 2010. 

After being a Point Scholar, Steven went on to study at the University of St. Andrew’s in Scotland as a recipient of the Robert T. Jones Scholarship from Emory University.  In the summer of 2013 he worked for an interfaith non-profit in Jerusalem. Steven is currently a second-year master of divinity student at Harvard Divinity School and, among his areas of focus, is exploring how ministry can be provided to the LGBTQ community.
