Alum Brett Janecek Raises Funds for AIDS Project LA

Written by teampoint | December 21, 2012

In Early December, I completed the 26.2 mile Honolulu Marathon in 3 hours and 54 minutes - raising $3,800 for AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). APLA serves more than 11,000 clients with first-rate HIV/AIDS care and prevention programs and fights for smart, effective HIV-related public policy.

The training was difficult at times, and I was concerned that I may not be able to run due to an IT band injury. Yet, I was able to recover and place 114th in my age group. It was an experience I will never forget.

Pictured above is me from mile 22. I am running with my new Chicago friend, Lavender, who is an out service member in the US Navy and running to benefit AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC). Not only was I able to support APLA but also had the opportunity to reconnect with AFC (the organization that originally inspired this goal 6 years ago).

At the finish line
