Meet Point Community College Scholarship Recipient Layla Kimbles

Which community college are you currently attending?

Riverside City College

Which program are you pursuing and what about the subject intrigues you most?

I am pursuing Psychology. This subjects interest me because I grew up around abnormal psychological problems, which has made me want to help people I watched growing up including my mother.

What are your education and career aspirations?

I want to become a Clinical Psychologist, with my PhD. And I want to become a Physician.

What is a fun fact about you that few people know?

A fun fact about me is that I love to swim.

What is your favorite book/movie/song and why?

My favorite song is Hero by Mariah Carey because it has helped me find strength throughout my whole life.

What is your current favorite streaming binge and why?

The Good Doctor because I feel many emotions while watching it.

In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?

In my spare time I enjoy bonding with my brother and sisters.

How are you practicing self-care during this difficult time?

I am practicing self-care by trying to have a regular sleep schedule.

How are you adjusting to remote life and what are your tips to stay motivated?

I am adjusting better than last fall, now back on top of my grades. A tip I have is to ask for help. Sometimes it feels like I should have it all together and figure it out on my own. But I shouldn't, and if there is help, accept it.

As a Point Community College Scholarship Recipient, what is your message to other LGBTQ+ students?

Remember to embrace who you are and find like-minded people who will accept you, mistakes and all. Ask for help and be open to constructive criticism.
