Which program are you pursuing and what about the subject intrigues you most?

English. Communication is integral in connecting with others and I think it is important to study how language can be used to both lift and harm others.

What are your education and career aspirations?

I would like to continue pursuing my degree and become a journalist. I want to become a voice for those that struggle to find their own.

What is a fun fact about you that few people know?

I can rap “DoYaThang” by the Gorillaz (almost) perfectly.

What is your favorite book/movie/song and why?

My favorite book is The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. I love the language used in the book— it’s almost impossible to put down! Also, I am a sucker for a story about soulmates.

In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy writing— both poetry and prose.

How are you practicing self-care during this difficult time?

I’m trying to remember to take time for myself and take breaks when I need them. Drinking lots of tea and going on short walks when I can.

How are you adjusting to remote life and what are your tips to stay motivated?

Set alarms. It can be hard to tell yourself to stay motivated, so set alarms and tell yourself, “I’ll write this paper for 25 minutes!” After your alarm goes off, get up, stretch, watch a fun video or make yourself a snack. Reset your alarm. You can do it!

As a Point Community College Scholarship Recipient, what is your message to other LGBTQ+ students?

Please don’t be afraid to apply! It’s an amazing opportunity. Even though the process seems a bit intimidating, everyone is very kind and understanding. It’s absolutely worth it. Don’t be afraid to engage in your community!
