Meet Point Scholar Mirandy Li

What college/university are you attending and what made you choose it?

Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - I chose to go to medical school here because it's in my hometown of New Orleans.

Which program are you pursuing and what about the subject intrigues you most?

I am pursuing an MD/PhD in public health. I am most interested in anti-racism work, and addressing health inequity.

What are your career aspirations?

I aspire to be an abortion provider.

What is a fun fact about you that few people know?

I have a collection of over 100 rocks and fossils that I can identify by heart.

What is your favorite book/movie/song and why?

My favorite movie is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - I love sci-fi, and it was the first sci-fi movie where I felt represented.

What is your current favorite streaming binge?

Bob's Burgers - this show can heal all wounds.

In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?

I love making costumes for Mardi Gras! I'm thinking about starting my own Etsy shop for it.

How are you practicing self-care during this difficult time?

I cuddle often with my dog, Coco.

How are you adjusting to remote life and what are your tips to stay motivated?

If I need a break from work, I try to clean my house or do some chores, just so that I can feel productive.

As a Point Scholar, what is your message to other LGBTQ+ students?

If you ever feel like you aren't doing enough, remember that your existence is inherently a revolutionary act of resistance!
