What is your favorite memory from your time as a student or from early in your career?

I cherish the network of friends and lifelong colleagues I made while in graduate school and in the years following.

How did you hear about Point Foundation, and what made you want to become a board member?

I was recruited by a previous DC Trustee member, Jack Jacobson. Education helped me achieve my career goals and lifted me out of poverty. I want everyone to have the same opportunity to achieve their goals.

What is a fun fact about you that few people know?

I am a Laughter Yoga leader. LOL!

What is your favorite book/movie/song and why?

Ellie Goulding's Anything Could Happen. One of my best friends send it to me when we were both struggling to survive on unemployment. It energized me in my job search. It still energizes me because truly anything can happen!

What is your current favorite streaming binge and why?

I just finished Wynona Earp - it was FANtastic! It has all the elements of a dark comedy superhero story and great queer characters too.Genera+ion - Watching the youth be able to explore themselves as individual human beings. Something I'm still learning how to do.

In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?

Adventures either in nature with my dog or in the kitchen. I love to explore new places and learn about the topography of the Earth. I'm also passionate about food culture and trying new dishes at home.

How are you practicing self-care during this difficult time?

I have a variety of self-care practices including multiple daily walks with my dog, laughter, writing daily gratitudes, and cooking nutritious and delicious foods. I've also sent small surprise care packages to my loved ones throughout the year - usually with my homemade jams inside. Long walks with my dogs, cooking, mediation.

As a member of the Point Foundation Board, what is your message to LGBTQ+ students?

There are many ways to make an impact in this world. Do what is important to you and what brings you the greatest joy.
