Patrick Oathout Returns from Ten-Week Trip to Jordan

Patrick Oathout, a 2012 Point Scholar, spent ten-weeks in Jordan teaching English to refugees from Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Palestine.  He taught over seventy students, had a home-stay with a popular Imam, and lived with Bedouins for several days.

Patrick also met with the U.S. Ambassador to Jordan and penned an article for the Duke Chronicle titled, "A Sniper Shot My Student."  Patrick is now back in the United States and plans to use his experiences to help the launch of his mobile application, Uhuru.

Patrick Oathout was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He is a Junior at Duke University and is double majoring in Philosophy and Public Policy. After graduation, Patrick hopes to serve as a Foreign Service Officer in the State Department. Learn  more about Patrick.
