The program will bring together Point family within the fields of policy and law to share their expertise and interests, discuss current issues and provide vital networking opportunities. WEDNESDAY, JULY 20 6:00 - 6:30 pm - LEAD Registration 6:30 - 9:00 pm - Reception & Opening Dinner THURSDAY, JULY 21 8:30 - 10:00 am - Breakfast 10:00 - 11:00 am - Keynote Address Robert Raben, Founder and President, The Raben Group 11:15 am - 12:20 pm - Case Studies Representatives from various legal organizations join Point to discuss case studies of policy/law strategies that were put into effect and how they were executed from conception to implementation.  Speakers include: Joshua Block, American Civil Liberties Union Staff Attorney, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & AIDS Project Sharita Gruberg, Senior Policy Analyst, The Center for American Progress Shannon Price Minter, Legal Director, the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) Patrick Paschall, Executive Director, FreeState Justice Moderator: Maya Rupert, Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary at U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development 12:30 - 1:50 pm - Lunch 2:00 - 3:00 pm - Policy Session Panelists discuss legislative efforts impacting the LGBTQ population. Speakers include: Dana Beyer, Executive Director, Gender Rights Maryland Mark Bromley, Council Chair, The Council for Global Equality Roddy Flynn, Equality Caucus Executive Director Ruben Gonzales, Vice President, Leadership Initiatives, The Victory Fund Moderator: Michele L. Jawando, Vice President, Legal Progress 3:10 - 4:15 pm - Doing the Work This intimate, interactive breakout session will challenge Point Scholars and Alum to strategize how they would put specific policy proposals/concepts into effect. Once they have worked together as a team with experienced facilitators to finalize a strategy, each team will then present their ideas to the larger group.
