Data Security Update

We recently learned that Blackbaud Inc., was the victim of a data security incident.  Blackbaud is one of the largest providers of fundraising and financial management software for non-profit organizations like the American Red Cross, United Way of America, Brown University, and also Point Foundation.

Blackbaud has reported that the security incident did not involve any credit card information or Social Security numbers, and that it has no reason to believe any information has been, or will be, misused.  Blackbaud also reported that all of the acquired information has been completely destroyed.  In coming to these conclusions, Blackbaud launched an independent investigation that included third party experts and law enforcement.

All of us at Point Foundation take the protection and proper use of your information very seriously, which is why we wanted to make you aware of this situation. For a full summary of the incident and steps Blackbaud has taken to mitigate the security breach, you can visit their website here.

If you have any questions or concerns, we are here to help.  Please feel free to contact us at info@pointfoundation.org and we will answer your inquiry as soon as possible.

-+What information is captured from visitors to Point Foundation website and its online application website?

The Point Foundation web server uses an extended log file format which captures: date and time of visit, referred address (location from which a visitor comes to (pointfoundation.org) type of Internet browser, and visitor’s IP address. (Each computer that connects to the Internet is assigned a unique number, an IP Address, for identification purposes). The log file does not capture a visitor’s email address.

-+Is personal information requested and how is the information used?

There are currently two areas which ask for personal information. 1) Online application – This information is intended for the use of only the Point Foundation in the process of evaluating applications for potential scholarships to be awarded by Point Foundation. None of the information collected, either electronically or by mail, is shared with organizations external to Point Foundation. 2) Donor Records – Once a donation is made, in order to properly recognize donors and prepare the donor tax letters, the donor’s name, address, phone number and email address are added to Point’s donor record software.
