Daan, originally from Massachusetts, studied entertainment media and Identity at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. He combined academic and hands-on work experience to analyze the entertainment business from a socially-conscious perspective. Interning at the New York offices of HBO and Viacom’s LOGO TV added to his knowledge of the entertainment business and intellectual property.
During his undergraduate experience, Daan served as a Peer Educator and a Resident Assistant. NYU’s LGBT Office and the Center for Multicultural Education & Programs presented Daan with awards for his contributions to the NYU community. In addition, he received the Student Affairs Hallmark Award, an honor given to only one undergraduate student per year.After graduating from NYU, Daan furthered his studies of media and intellectual property at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.
During law school, he served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Richard Fruin at Los Angeles Superior Court and interned with HBO’s Santa Monica office. He spent his third year as a visiting student at Fordham University School of Law and received his J.D. from Loyola in May 2012. Currently, he works in copyright and trademark law as a Senior Research & Conference Fellow at the Fordham IP Institute.
