Daniel Gomez is a 21-year-old gay man who was born and raised in East Los Angeles, California. He became cognizant of the importance of empowering and raising awareness for the LGBTQIA+ community when he faced severe criticism from a religious household when he came out at the age of 15. Realizing that the lack of LGBTQIA+ representation in communities of color was apparent in his neighborhood, Daniel joined several organizations on campus to advocate for the rights and respect of all students. Daniel is currently an honors student at East Los Angeles College, and he is pursuing a degree in neuroscience. He is also involved in several academic enrichment programs such University of California Los Angeles Center for Community College Partnership, Loyola Marymount University Undergraduate Research Scholars Academy, and the California State University Northridge Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity Promoting Opportunities for Diversity in Education and Research program. Daniel hopes to transfer to a university by fall of 2018 and, upon completing his undergraduate degree, he plans to go to medical school and become a surgeon.
