John Nguyen is an Academic Excellence Scholar studying computer science at The University of Texas at Dallas. As a Green Fellow alum, John’s software development and research career has spanned PNC Bank, UT Southwestern Medical Center, and Rice University. Active in the LGBTQ community, John was a sponsored attendee for the Out 4 Undergrad Tech Conference and oSTEM Conference. He was a mentee for the Out in Tech Mentorship Program and the featured concerto soloist for the Rose City Pride Band’s Resist II Concert. Previously, John volunteered as a counselor for the Trevor Project. John enjoys playing the flute competitively. John most recently won the Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition and National Flute Association Masterclass Performers Competition. He currently studies with Terri Sundberg, who also taught and mentored Point Scholar Brittney Balkcom. John hopes to eventually take on a product management role and is strongly considering graduate school. As a BIPOC Scholar, he hopes to take advantage of the opportunity to meet highly accomplished LGBTQ individuals in tech, business, music, and law. He hopes to one day pay it forward to the LGBTQ community through mentorship, sponsorships, and political activism.
