BIPOC

Born in Manila, Philippines, raised in Renton, Washington, and now based in Eugene, Oregon, Juli has always been an involved community member. Since July 2018, she's been a dedicated FIRST Robotics participant, volunteer, and mentor. In the summer of 2020, her passion for equity within the STEM space was realized when she founded the FIRST Washington DEI Advisory Committee, which continues to provide resources, educate community members, and represent marginalized groups within robotics today. She took her activism further as a board member for the Issaquah School District Student Equity Council from 2020-2022, advocating for BIPOC, immigrant, and queer student needs, earning the Washington School Administrators' Student Leadership Award through this work in 2022. During the pandemic, she advocated for youth mental health needs with King County Public Health and the Seattle Times, producing a BIPOC-centric mental health guide in November 2021. Today, she practices intersectional journalism and design as the assistant editor-in-chief of the Siren Magazine, the feminist magazine of the University of Oregon Women's Center. Utilizing her love for design, the arts, and social impact, Juli is pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Oregon to study sustainable cities and construction for social causes.
