BIPOC

Katherine was born and raised in Miami, Florida and now attends the University of Iowa. Since early childhood, she has shown a high degree of interest in science. In high school, this interest manifested itself as a score of five on the AP Research test. After that, Katherine was hooked and knew she wanted to become a scientist. She has over three years of research experience working in several labs at her university. Currently, she works in a psycholinguistics lab studying the brain mechanisms behind language using EEG and eye-tracking technology. Outside of class, Katherine is highly involved as a leader and advocate on campus. She is the founder and president of Double Rainbow - a student organization for queer and BIPOC individuals. She served as a resident assistant during the height of the pandemic and was selected for the 2022 homecoming court. She is also a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and the university fencing club, where she won two medals in tournaments at the University of Michigan and Iowa State. As a curious individual in general, she also enjoys taking classes outside her major. She particularly enjoys taking classes with the geology department and going on hikes.
