Matthew Yekell

Matthew Yekell (he/him) is a sophomore at Stanford University majoring in computer science. On campus, Matthew is a consultant at Stanford Consulting and a member of the Stanford Society of Latinx Engineers. This past summer, Matthew completed an internship at Cboe Global Markets, where he worked as a derivatives strategy analyst intern. Prior to his start at Stanford, Matthew served on GLSEN’s National Student Council, where he advocated for safer schools for LGBTQ students. As a National Student Council member, Matthew authored resources, blog posts, and guides sent to 6,500+ Gender-Sexuality Alliances internationally. Matthew was also the introductory speaker at the 2019 GLSEN Respect Awards. Matthew is also passionate about serving LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness. In partnership with Tony’s Place, a Houston-based drop-in center for homeless LGBTQ youth, Matthew created a homemade meal program that has served upwards of 4,500 meals. Matthew also organized ten collection drives across Texas. In 2020, Matthew was named Texas’ Top High School Youth Volunteer by the Prudential of Community Awards. His activist endeavors have been featured in People Magazine, CNN, and The Huffington Post. In the future, Matthew hopes to combine his passion for computer science, statistics, and activism.
