Neil grew up in a conservative family in the Philippines, attending Catholic school and going church every Sunday to uphold his Christian faith. Upon entering puberty, Neil realized his sense of attraction was different than other guys. He began exploring his identity at an early age and often felt ashamed because he was different. Neil hid his attraction until he emigrated to the U.S. in 2019 because he feared hatred and resentment from his family. In search of assistance, Neil joined the Pride Scholars at San Joaquin Delta College, which provides support to LGBTQ students. Upon joining, Neil realized Pride Scholars could be an opportunity that will help him discover his true identity while being supported and accepted. He gained trust in other members of the community and learned how to stand on his own while exploring more opportunities to become involved with in his community. Neil is now an Ambassador and Student Council of Stockton Scholars and an Advocator of Changeist.
