Ryan is a philanthropy professional focused on stewarding private resources toward the advancement of global human rights and social justice. Ryan began his career at The Philanthropy Workshop, a nonprofit specializing in strategic philanthropy education and networking in the pursuit of a more just, sustainable, and enriching world. He has since worked at foundations in roles spanning everything from strategy and communications to grants management and evaluation. His programmatic work has touched upon the rights of the global LGBTIQ community, women, migrants, and animals. In his current position at Humanity United, Ryan oversees efforts to address forced labor and human trafficking in global supply chains as well as supporting independent journalism and legislative advocacy. Ryan was named a Point Scholar in 2008 as an undergraduate studying political science and philosophy at Tufts University. He received Tufts’ Pride on the Hill Award recognizing the graduating senior who had made the greatest contribution to the LGBTIQ community. In 2017, Ryan graduated from Columbia University with a Master of Arts in Human Rights Studies, where his research focused on global grantmaking for LGBTIQ movements. The child of a single mother who lifted herself out of poverty through hard work and a lifelong commitment to education, Ryan credits the Point Foundation for enabling him to pursue higher education and empowering him to pursue a career in social change.
