Shayle Matsuda (Ph.D.) is a coral biologist and microbial ecologist and studies the effects of ocean warming on reef building corals and understanding the microbial risks of coral transplantation for conservation interventions. He received his BA from the University of California Santa Cruz and his MCs from San Francisco State University and the California Academy of Sciences. With Point's support, he completed his PhD in marine biology at the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa and the Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology. He is currently a David H Smith Conservation Research Postdoctoral Fellow at the John G Shedd Aquarium.
