Skylar was a Point Scholar from 2015-2018 while he completed an undergraduate mathematics degree at UMBC. After graduating he trained with the Baltimore City Teaching Residency and began working in Baltimore City Public Schools. He taught high school mathematics in Baltimore City throughout the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, and has been exploring additional teaching opportunities since then. A longtime resident of Baltimore, Skylar began his LGBTQ+ activism while attending high school, and was active with queer student organizations through college. He now continues his activism by advocating for and supporting queer, transgender, neurodiverse, and disabled students and and participants in his schools and communities. When not working, Skylar can often be found reading, hiking, or enjoying the company of animals.
