Sofia Flores is an honors student studying neuroscience and psychology, with a minor in biology, at Florida International University. She completed an accelerated program, graduating with her high school diploma and associate degree before attending college. She is a Presidential Premier Scholarship awardee and has made the dean’s list for multiple semesters. She is working towards completing her two bachelor’s degrees and then entering a cognitive neuroscience doctoral program. Sofia is passionate about the intersections of psychology and health, especially addiction research. She dreams of opening her own nonprofit rehabilitation center in Miami and becoming a clinical psychologist.

In preparation for graduate school, she has been involved in a variety of research opportunities. Her most recent research experience is funded by the NSF and involves training underrepresented groups in the usage of computer programs. She has also volunteered at the Child Anxiety and Phobia Program, where she worked with low-income families suffering from different anxiety disorders. Sofia is also involved in a variety of on-campus organizations, like the Pride Student Union, where she is the general board president. She has helped organize events like the Miami Beach Pride and the university drag show to increase awareness for LGBTQ issues.
