Meet Our Scholars

Zia Varajon is a Chicago-based drag artist originally from “The Friendly City,” known as Athens, Tennessee. Having begun her physical transition at the age of 25, Zia understands how her privilege affects the way she navigates the world, and she wishes to facilitate equity within the healthcare network. 

Zia is beginning enrollment at Harry S. Truman College in Chicago for the Fall 2022 semester as a student in the Associates of Biology program.  After her time at Truman, she hopes to finish her bachelor’s degree at Northwestern University in biological sciences to eventually become a dermatologist. Zia wishes to be one of the first openly transgender doctors of dermatology so she can give back to patients within the LGBTQ society that may not have access to such procedures otherwise. As a first-generation college student, she is dedicated to the betterment of herself and her community.
