Lack of Queer Sex Ed is More Than Tragedy, It’s State Violence

For my community service project this year, I chose to compile sexual health resources that were specifically made with LGBTQ youth in mind. It felt like something that would be relatively easy to complete in my free time between my course load, job, activism work, and other on-campus commitments, as well as something that would […]

DSCH and Politicized Symphonies As They Exist Today

It has been said that “all art is political.” In the history of Western classical music, this has never been more true than for those composers who wrote under the Soviet regime of twentieth century Russia. Inebriated with the powerful grip he had achieved over a generation, the infamous demagogue and dictator Josef Stalin censored […]

LGBTQ Identity and Impostor Syndrome

When I first discovered the Point Foundation website, I went directly to the list of scholarship recipients, read through every bio, and proclaimed myself inadequate. I “knew” that I couldn’t win when the bios of the recipients were all so impressive, so I immediately told myself that I wasn’t worth that level of recognition. […]

How to Resist a Trump Presidency

I sat on the couch with my partner and one of my mothers as we decided to watch the documentary United in Anger: A History of ACT UP. It was a normal Winter break evening spent gathered as a family to watch movies, eat snacks, and cuddle under blankets to fend off the cold Wisconsin […]

Reflecting on Progress for LGBTQ & Racially Marginalized Women in STEM

Though many people have their reservations about 2016, for me, I’ve been able to grow both as a student and budding professional. As someone who holds many marginalized identities, I’ve come up with my own way to describe my experience as a Queer Latinx Woman in STEM: “Angie in STEM.” 2016 has given me the […]

For my Community Service Project (CSP), I am creating a digital storytelling project working in partnership with an organization that I co-founded with Erin Bailey, Queering the Museum (QTM). My project addresses a lack of historical representation of LGBTQ people’s lives. My research is grounded in museums where a consistent failure to include LGBTQ stories is […]

LGBTQ Scholars Will Not Be Erased

Your support is vital. This year, hundreds of homophobic, transphobic, and anti-LGBTQ bills have been proposed and adopted as law in states around the country. As the LGBTQ and allied communities combat these bills, Point continues to support LGBTQ students in higher ed though scholarships, mentoring, coaching and programming to help students find success at school. Join us in supporting the resilience of the LGBTQ community as anti-LGBTQ legislation sweeps the United States.
