Point Honors Point Scholar Lane Rosen writes:

As a baking and pastry student, I believe one of the most important things is exploring every career possibility this field has to offer. From working in a small bakery to being a manager in a huge corporation, I want to know about it all. Last week, Point Foundation gave me an opportunity to visit the pastry commissary at Great Performances to learn about another facet of this industry.

Great Performances is a massive operation that caters the food for several institutions in New York City, including The Plaza Hotel, where Point Honors NY will be held next month. I got to meet Executive Chef Robert Valencia and tour their facilities. I learned a ton about their company and saw for the first time a catering company with over sixty people working to put all of the parts together. There were so many people doing all sorts of jobs to make their operations run smoothly and it was so interesting to see everything that it is possible to do in this industry.

Chef Valencia gave a great tour, I got to try a few little snacks, and thankfully I didn’t get run over by all of the cooks zigging and zagging through the kitchen. Thank you, Great Performances and the folks from The Plaza, for an amazing new and fun experience!
