Community College Scholarship

The Point Community College Scholarship empowers LGBTQ community college students to fulfill their ambitions in college. Whether you are eager to earn an associate degree and join the workforce or you intend to transfer to a four-year college or university, Point can provide financial aid and mentoring to help you achieve your educational goals.

The Point Community College Scholarship empowers LGBTQ community college students to fulfill their ambitions in college. Whether you are eager to earn an associate degree and join the workforce or you intend to transfer to a four-year college or university, Point can provide financial aid and mentoring to help you achieve your educational goals.

Scholarship Details

Point Community College Scholars receive financial aid, mentoring, leadership development, and transfer support.

Amount: $2,400 per semester or $4,800 per academic year.

Funding Period: Fall 2024 through spring 2025. Most Point Community College Scholarships provide one year of support. A small number of two-year scholarships are available

Cosmetology students: Students with a focus on hair are eligible to apply for a Bumble and bumble Cosmetology  Scholarship, which offers continuing education opportunities with Bumble and bumble. To apply, click the Bumble and bumble box while completing the Point Scholarships application.

Application

Sept. 21, 9 a.m. PST/12:00 p.m. EST: Community College Scholarship application opens.

Feb. 8, 9 a.m./12:00 p.m. EST: Application closes.

Finalists will be invited to submit additional required materials in March. Recipients will be notified no later than May 31.

Eligibility & Requirements

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled or intending to enroll at an accredited community college in the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska.
  • Must have 1-2 years of community college left and either (1) intend to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year institution OR (2) graduate with an associates degree within two years.
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) throughout the academic year.
  • Must be “out” as a person who identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community.

Application factors include:

  • Financial need or independence
  • Personal history
  • Academic achievement
  • Community involvement and work experience

Beyond Financial Support

Being a community college scholarship recipient means more than getting financial support for your college tuition and fees. Point Community College Scholars are provided support from Point staff and volunteers, and through educational and social events throughout their time as a scholar.

Mentoring

A group mentoring experience to support academic and professional success.

Community College Conference

The semiannual online Community College Conference prepares scholars to pursue further education and get the professional experience they need to pursue their dreams. Workshops focus on topics such as navigating transfer applications and financial aid, building a resume, effective interviewing, and authentic networking.

Community College Scholarship FAQ

Is there an age limit to apply to the Point Community College Scholarship Program? down

No. There is no age limit to be eligible for the Point Community College Scholarship Program. We ask that you have 1-2 years left of your community college education with the intent to either transfer to a four-year college or university in Fall 2023 or graduate with an associates and/or transfer to a four-year college or university in Fall 2024.

I’m currently in community college and intend to transfer. Can I use the Point Community College Scholarship to cover educational costs after I transfer to a four-year university? down

No. The Community College Scholarship can only be applied to educational costs while you are enrolled in a community college.

I’m a senior in high school and I plan on staying for only 1 year at a community college before transferring. Am I eligible to apply? down

The Community College Scholarship is intended to support students in their final year of community college. Students earlier in their education may apply, but Point will prioritize awarding scholarships to applicants in their final year of study before earning an associate degree and/or transferring.

Are Point Community College Scholarships restricted to any geographic regions? down

No. Point Community College Scholarships can be used at accredited colleges anywhere in the United States.
