What is your current occupation?

Healthcare/ Community & Business Development

What is your alma mater, and what did you study when you were in school?

Hampton University & New York University in the 80's.

What is your favorite memory from your time as a student or from early in your career?

The enlightening conversations which opened my worldview.

How did you hear about Point Foundation, and what made you want to become a board member?

I am a member of the Board of Directors of Miami Beach Pride and we have been sponsoring a student for the Point Foundation.

What is a fun fact about you that few people know?

I'm a nerd...people sometimes think I'm cool....but I'm not... LoL.

What is your favorite book/movie/song and why?

The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan- it allows me to disappear into my imagination while having very relevant messages about humility, service, and the greater good.

What is your current favorite streaming binge and why?

Genera+ion - Watching the youth be able to explore themselves as individual human beings. Something I'm still learning how to do.

In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?

Playing with my dogs and playing tennis and/or water sports.

How are you practicing self-care during this difficult time?

Long walks with my dogs, cooking, mediation.

How are you adjusting to remote life and what are your tips to stay motivated?

I stay motivated by concentrating on staying in the day. It has its pluses and minuses and I'm trying to stay focused on the different missions of the organizations I'm affiliated with.

As a member of the Point Foundation Board, what is your message to LGBTQ+ students?

Dream Big and Live Fearlessly. Always connect with others.

Paul Thomas has over 30 years of professional experience in the healthcare and education sectors, including positions at NYU Medical Center, New York State Education Department and AIDS Healthcare Foundation. He is currently on his second appointment on the LGBTQ Advisory Board to the City of Miami Beach. He is also the former Treasurer and current Chair of the Philanthropy Committee for Miami Beach Pride, where he helped establish the Miami Beach Pride Point Community College Scholarship.
