What is your current occupation?
Writer/Producer
What is your alma mater and what did you study when you were in school?
Brigham Young University and Antioch University - Graduated with a degree in Creative Writing from Antioch.
What is your favorite memory from your time as a student or from early in your career?
Being a dancer/singer at multiple performing groups at BYU, including The Ballroom Dance Co.
How did you hear about Point Foundation and what made you want to become a board member?
I met Jorge Valencia, the Executive Director, when we were students at BYU and performing together. I am interested in issues of equity and inclusion in any form.
What is a fun fact about you that few people know?
I used to be a ballroom dancer. Or, I have 9 brothers and sisters. Or, I used to be a Mormon.
What is your favorite book/movie/song and why?
The Little Prince - The book has my favorite quote.
Ordinary People - The movie deals with a fractured family, which I relate to.
Fragile - The song is haunting and beautiful at the same time.
What is your current favorite streaming binge and why?
Lupin. Made me happy to see a Black man in a French series that has taken the world by a storm.
In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?
Watching movies, reading, playing the piano.
How are you practicing self-care during this difficult time?
Naps!
How are you adjusting to remote life and what are your tips to stay motivated?
Remote life has been okay. I live alone and have for many years, so I do okay by myself. I've stayed motivated because my teaching and writing assignments keep me extremely busy.
As a member of the Point Foundation Board, what is your message to LGBTQ+ students?
We are here to support you. We believe in your potential. We know you have the ability to change the world.
Ligiah Villalobos is a Writer, Producer, Consultant, Educator and Lecturer. She is best known for the independent feature film Under the Same Moon, (La Misma Luna), which she wrote and executive produced.
