Volunteer Your Time
Each one of Point’s fundraising events is led by a host committee of volunteers who support our mission and are willing to invite their respective networks to support the event. Prior to each event, host committee members also participate in conference calls with Point staff to assist with various components of the planning process (e.g. venue, catering, invitations, etc.). If you are interested in serving on a host committee for an upcoming event, please contact us. We will be in touch with you shortly to further discuss your interest and answer any questions you might have.
Event volunteers support Point at our various fundraising events throughout the year. Depending on the type of event, duties may include event set-up and strike, escorting VIP guests, guest and volunteer check-ins, gift bag assembly and more. If you are interested in becoming an event volunteer, please complete a Volunteer Application.
Administrative Volunteers help Point staff members in our New York and Los Angeles offices with mailings, filing and other administrative tasks. When projects become available, volunteers are contacted depending on their interests, availability and skills. If you are interested in becoming an administrative volunteer, please complete a Volunteer Application.
Application Readers assist Point by reviewing and scoring the scholarship applications that are submitted each winter. Preferably, readers have a background in education, admissions, scholarships, counseling, hiring, or human resources. It is also very important that readers have a strong understanding of the issues affecting the LGBTQ community.
Point provides each reader with virtual training and comprehensive oversight of our systems as well as our scoring process, which allows each reader to work at their own pace from home. In order to become a Reader, you must submit a Reader Application, receive committee approval, attend all training sessions, and commit to reading at least 25 applications between the months of January and February. To get started, please complete a Reader Application. Upon receipt, we will contact you to set up a time to further discuss your interest and answer any questions you might have. Please note that readers are also ineligible to apply for Point Scholarships in the future.
Each Point Scholar is paired with a caring mentor who is committed to advancing our students’ academic, professional and professional growth. If you are interested in learning more about our Mentoring Program, please visit our Mentoring page.
MORE WAYS TO GIVE
Many donors demonstrate commitment to Point through bequests in their wills. Point works with these legacy donors and their executors to meet the needs of scholarship recipients and the wishes of the donor.
Momentous and glamorous dinners, intimate and stylish cocktail receptions – Point events around the country all benefit Point Scholars and programs. Demonstrate your support for LGBTQ youth and education by attending and sponsoring.
