FAQs About Point Scholarships

I am not sure that I qualify as having financial need, but I am confident that I have many of the other qualities Point seeks in scholars. Should I still apply? down

Yes. Point uses a holistic evaluation process. Students are encouraged to apply for every opportunity for which they meet the eligibility criteria. See Point's scholarship page to find the eligibility criteria for each Point award.

Are Point's scholarships and awards restricted to any specific geographic regions? down

Point Scholars must be enrolled in an accredited, not-for-profit U.S. postsecondary institution. 

If I apply and am not selected as a Point Scholar, may I reapply? down

Yes, applicants may reapply as many times as they remain eligible. Point does not keep copies of semifinalist or finalist materials from your previous application. Each returning applicant should submit the most current and competitive information possible.

Can prior Point Scholars apply for another Point scholarship? down

Yes, prior Point scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for another Point scholarship if they exited their former program with active status. Students may not receive more than one Point scholarship at a time.

Can I submit my application early? down

While there is no benefit to early submission, Point highly recommends applicants submit their applications as soon as they have their materials ready. All complete applications submitted by the deadline receive equal consideration. Consult scholarship pages for information about the application window and deadline.

I do not know yet where I will be attending college, should I still apply to be a Point Scholar? down

Yes. Applicants do not have to be enrolled or accepted to a particular program/university to apply to be a Point Scholar. All scholars must verify their enrollment if selected for a scholarship. 

Is there an age limit to apply to become a Point Scholar? down

No, there is no age limit to be eligible for a Point Scholarship.

How will I know if Point received my scholarship application? down

Applicants will receive a confirmation email once they have submitted their application. They will also be able to log into the application portal to see the status of their application. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure they are receiving Point’s emails. Applicants are encouraged to make applications@pointfoundation.org as a contact or safe-sender to prevent communications from being directed to junk/spam.  

Can I submit a paper scholarship application? down

Scholarship applications may only be submitted online. Faxed or mailed applications will not be considered.

I am enrolling in college after a long educational break, and I don’t have my transcript or remember my previous GPAs. What should I do? down

Point scholarship applicants are required to submit their most recent academic transcript with a calculated grade point average. Applicants should contact the last school they attended and request an unofficial transcript

Will I need to submit any supplemental information? down

Point will only review application components directly requested by the application. Attempting to submit unrequested supplemental materials may negatively impact the review of an application.
