Our summer Internship & Professional Development Awards support students as they pursue research, take on internships, attend conferences and workshops, and more!
Scholarship Details
Award funds may be used to cover out-of-pocket costs associated with a summer professional development activity. Activities can include participation in an academic or professional conference, faculty-supervised research, internships, and other activities that will advance LGBTQ+ and ally leaders toward their professional goals.
Amount: Up to $5,000
Funding Period: June 1 - September 15

Application Opens: March 3, 9:00 a.m. PST
Application Closes: April 15, 5:00 p.m. PST
ClosedEligibility
- Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited, not-for-profit U.S. postsecondary institution in the spring 2027 academic term.
- Must apply with a professional development opportunity set during the summer of 2027.
- Must be a member of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally.
- If previously awarded a Point Scholarship, applicants must have exited their former program with active status, which grants eligibility for future scholarships and awards.

The Kadel and Gerhardt Internships seek to support the next generation of professionals in the field of HIV/AIDS research, services, and advocacy. HIV/AIDS is a multifaceted challenge that requires leaders across disciplines and sectors. The Kadel and Gerhardt Awards allow students and recent graduates the opportunity to explore or further a career dedicated to responding to HIV/AIDS and supporting individuals living with HIV/AIDS.

The Kadel & Gerhardt Internships
These internship awards are being generously funded in memoriam of donors who devoted their lives to serving LGBTQ+ people affected by HIV/AIDS. Point seeks to support the next generation of researchers, advocates, and care providers who are interested working with the LGBTQ+ community of HIV-positive and high-risk individuals by funding their summer internship opportunities.
Amount: Up to $7,000
Funding Period: June 1 – September 15

- Must apply with an unpaid internship set during the summer of 2027.
- Internship must be related to the field of HIV/AIDS research, advocacy, and/or services.
- Open to students currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program or individuals who are within one year of their graduation.
- Must be a member of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally.
- If previously awarded a Point Scholarship, applicants must have exited their former program with active status, which grants eligibility for future scholarships and awards
