Which program are you pursuing and what about the subject intrigues you most?
English and History. I am most interested in queer themes in literature and southern queer history.
What are your career aspirations?
I aspire to become a public service attorney working towards a more equal future for gender and sexual minorities.
What is a fun fact about you that few people know?
I have two birthdays! I was born January 17th, but didn't have a name until the 21st, so my birth certificate was signed 4 days late.
What is your favorite book/movie/song and why?
I love The Wizard of Oz. My mom and I used to watch it constantly, and I love the musical Wicked because I relate to Elphaba.
What is your current favorite streaming binge?
I LOVE LOVECRAFT COUNTRY!
In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?
Sleeping, reading, or cuddling with my dog, Elvira.
How are you practicing self-care during this difficult time?
I am shutting my computer at 10pm each night and making myself get into bed.
How are you adjusting to remote life and what are your tips to stay motivated?
I prioritize routine right now. I make sure to move about my apartment, engage socially somehow (FaceTime calls, texting, etc.), and I communicate when I find myself overwhelmed. I think every day why I work, and remind myself that the work I do makes the lives of queer people better in small but meaningful ways.
As a Point Scholar, what is your message to other LGBTQ+ students?
Love yourself. Love yourself more than just internally; treat yourself well. Don't give your love to those that don't deserve it, make sure you eat (if possible), make sure you drink your water, make sure you sleep, treat yourself often. You are worthy of love, even from yourself. Love yourself.
